Lonely is the Night
Out of the darkened night air
trudged the shadow
a man tattered soiled and stained
opaque hair greasy slick
beard tangled twisted gray
his plop pop echoed pecking the solid floor
ghostly flakes whirled chilling stone
a moment’s peace to ease his glacial roots
a call came to the station
a jogger found the man a John Doe
found him under a bridge
tattered soiled and stained
his head laid on a pillow
red white and blue
not a penny in his pocket
not a wallet with his name
his sandals were silent once more.
