Outcast
i must keep quiet
yet how can i for
i know why . . . i know
Ernest’s darkest day
and the secret he carried
all the way to his grave
i can’t say aloud . . . you
wouldn’t believe anyhow
and yet you should know
i want to cry out to run
to hide
i can’t in my heart idly
stand by accuse point or shout
certainly i can’t say why
too much time has gone away
and yet the feeling
swells deep deep inside
it’s always the inverse of
too much never enough as
was his dream as is mine
silently my lips form the
slurred f . . . family
friends and fakes and
of course just being
a writer
living a writer’s meager
kind of life of fear as it finds
its way into their hearts only i’ll
never know for i’m the same as him
just another lonely outcast
a writer of words.

Beautiful, meaningful poetry! Congrats on your published book. I know how hard that is to accomplish.
