Dan Hanosh’s The Moon Also Rises
dreams to come and thoughts of tomorrow

The Painting

The hill stands above
the waters shore glimmering, held
confined by tall green pine trees.

Houses line the waters edge, a dock
protrudes into a bay, protected by a
sliver of land, extending into the lake.

A duck sits on the water of the bay, boats
appear motionless except for a white frothy wake,
a sailboats billowy sail suggest movement.

An eagle is suspended in the
sky, much like a child’s mobile hanging
above a crib, clouds seem frozen in time.

The bend of the trees, signal wind, dark
tones become shadows, light tones become sun
shine, trees are mirrored at the waters edge.

Just for an instant, we are able to
capture a moment in time the
lake is etched in our minds, it
becomes the picture, the painting.
