One night, my boy found
a baby fox, running,
through the neighborhood.

Why did my boy, try to catch it.

It’s mother,
high-tailed for the kit,
rescuing it.

Last night,
it rained, a heavy
down poor rain.

Walking, I found a
baby fox,
it lay still,

Oh, so water logged,
it must have
drowned.

Sadness,
entered my thoughts,
I stood, wondering, why.

Why do the innocent, have to die?

Months before,
a neighbor girl, stood
there for the bus,

she waited and was hit
by a car,
she died.

Sadness,
entered my thoughts,
I stood, wondering, why.

Why do the innocent, have to die?

Why the baby
fox, why had it fallen,
near my driveway?

Did the mother
leave it, knowing I
respected it

or did she kill the kit,
blaming my
son for it.

I dug a hole, prayed,
for them both,
may they rest.

Sadness,
entered my thoughts,
I stood, wondering, why.

Why do the innocent, have to die?
