Dan Hanosh’s The Moon Also Rises
dreams to come and thoughts of tomorrow

Only Suffering

War started today,
our missiles banged
into Baghdad,
disappointment has crept
into my thoughts,
for my country
started the war.

We watched as
if we were innocent,
viewing scenes of death and
dying, strategies were
discussed as in sport,
all are guilty, like
the nazi’s, for not saying
no, for not protesting.

Each action will
be recorded, remembered,
discussed, so it will
never happen again, but
it will, it always does,
I wonder, who will be
remembered as being
right, no one yet knows.

I am saddened,
saddened that we forgot,
that war is hell and death
is forever, that prisoners
are tortured and war
never brings peace,
only suffering.

One Response to “Only Suffering”

  1. This breaks my hart as it is so true. And our family was so against all of this and now my son-in-law is over there. He was pulled from his Guard unit and redeployed off of the fence project and re-assigned to another unit to be sent there. He is a Dessert Storm vet. He has 12 years full military and 3 years in the guard. And, this was the first time he had ever heard of such a thing to be re-assigned from one unit to another…especially when you were already deployed. Our hearts break everyday as he runs missions into Iraq from Kuwait. The squad 3 hours ahead of his last week was hit by an IED…God was with us this time. I will be so glad when the elections come!! Thank you for these touching and true words. But, please don’t forget our soldiers…because ours doesn’t want to be there…but, he is Army and he is following orders. God Bless you!!
